Why? Can 9-year-old David Balogun Graduate From High School?
Maybe many people will say “This is not surprising, because he is a genius”.
The truth may not be that simple.
Although it seems that this is not something ordinary people can do:
David finished high school in under three years with a 4.0 GPA and finished a nester of college. He wants to be an astrophysicist, and he is a member of Mensa.
He recently made history as one of the youngest people ever to graduate high school.
“I want to be an astrophysicist, and I want to study black holes and supernovas,” he told a local news station.
what makes him so genius?
I can’t stop thinking about this question, but maybe we can find the answer in the CNN interview with his parents, here is what his parents said:
The host asked:
Did you do anything special, you think, or different that puts David ahead of the pack?
David’s mom:
I think you just have to listen to your child and get outside of the box. He was the one leading the charge.
He is the one that was motivated. I just had to break out of the box and think outside of the normal schooling, think outside of what people know and what I know growing up, and just give him a chance to be and do what he is dreaming to be and doing.David’s dad:
In addition to that, there are so many factors that we saw very early when David was growing up. He is the type that is very curious about everything. And everywhere we went, he always asked, what is this? What is that? And then if you explain and you use big words, he will want you to break it down and he will me what that means.
And when he comes with me to my clinic, I have an outpatient psychiatric clinic. When he comes to me, I mean, to the clinic, he always asks questions. Why do you do this as opposed to doing that? And what does this mean?
Instead of, you know. And you have to explain without explaining if you know what I mean because you still have to pay attention to the requirements of the law. We keep patients' information highly confidential because of the hippa law. And I still have to break it down for him.
I never said to him, shut up! Or go and do something else.
No.
I would take the time to break this down.
Based on the above conversation, I think, some of the following reasons lead to David’s genius:
1. David has a strong curiosity.
2. David’s parents know how to protect and develop his curiosity and satisfy his thirst for knowledge.
3. Parents let David be the master of learning by himself, and stimulate his learning initiative.
4. Parents dare to break the routine, let David learn as much knowledge and develop intelligence as possible under the drive of curiosity, give him opportunities and space, and don’t give him restraint, so that he is always in a state of active learning. So David must have started studying very early, he must have had a good early education. Then, his parents know how to clear the way for his learning and give him enough opportunities to learn.
……
These are my conclusions, do you think they are right? You are welcome to discuss it with me, looking forward…thank you!
